about
Contemporary art is an ephemeral, contingent phenomenon whose existence is not to be taken for granted. The vernacular that has developed over the short course of contemporary art’s history is merely a proposal, not to be understood as purely solidified. Criticism can have a role in making the abrupt groundlessness of these artistic motives more apparent, while demystifying the confounding appearances of art through historical assessment. Contributors for Chicago Art Criticism understand that their writing is an extension of art itself, and as such plays an equally active role in molding consciousness. Contributors explicate the connections merely implied in art works, hopefully clarifying historical assumptions to enhance the latent hopes contained therein.
